Unfortunate News/Fortunate Muse

August 19th, 2010 by Ben

Due to a double booking fiasco, the Bourbon has ultimately pulled the plug on our show Saturday night.  We we’re supposed to open for “The Chase”, who were set to release their EP that night, but they got the slip.  Which means we got the slip.  Ho-hum.

However, we have secured a date for our EP release along with some bands, and we’ll post that shit s’nough (soon enough)

Some copies have been circulating admist the urban and sub urban sprawl, from East Van to Pomo, and the word is in:

“I like the cover, it’s real pretty!”

Well said, old friend.

Well said.

Sssssamba!

What a lovely show at the Cobalt last night.  Hot+Sweaty, just like we like it.  Your friends at FCC work well under these conditions.

Two more chances to catch us this week:

If you’re doing the Tri-City tango and can’t afford the downtown ticket, come to Spirit Square this Friday (August 20th) in Coqutilam.  It’s Free(!!!) and we’re playing a breezy outdoor set @ 6.30.

Now, if you’re a dirty fucking hipster scene kid grimey hot and messy bar-rat inner city sex pot makey-outy love tramp, and like underground music, come out to The Bourbon this Saturday.  Cover is 10$, we’re opening for a band called “The Chase”, who are releasing their EP that night.  Facebook event ova here —–>http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=112025625516172&ref=ts

Tracking vocals/percussion tonight for hipster love.  Hopefully we’ll have some mixed demos in the near future.

I”ll be back sometime tomorrow, don’t worry babe.

Augustus

We’ve got a pile of shows for ya.

Wednesday August 18th @ The Cobalt.  Or The “New” Cobalt.  Or 516 Main, whatever the hell they’re calling it these days.  It’s a block from the Main Skytrain station, that’s all you need to worry about.  We’re playing with some amazing bands, including Hospital Blonde and Rags to Radio.  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=149495141731036

Friday August 20th @ Spirit Square in Coqutilam.

Saturday August 21st @ The Bourbon.  We love playing the Bourbon very much.  This time around we’re opening for The Chase, who will be releasing their brand new disc that night.

Sunday August 29th @ Funky Winker Beans.  Dollar beers? Yes please.

NOW, some updates:

Sorry it’s been so long since last time we connected.  It’s not you, babe.  It’s just that… things have been a little crazy for your friends at Free City Collective, lately.

Looks like we might have found a proper venue/date for our EP release, which will be in September sometime.  Possibly the 23rd?  We’ll let you know.

Our temporary drummer, Joe Chipman, is settling into the groove quite nicely.  We’re whipping together some cool new tracks and we’ll be debuting them over the next few months.

Still recording some new demos over at Nimbus Studios, and it’s going swimmingly.  “Hipster Love” is just about done tracking.  The other two are getting there.  One might be a cover.  Only time will tellllllll

Your friends at FCC are still pretty bummed about calling-off most of our Summer plans, but we’ve been doing lots of writing and it feels great.   Sometimes, a little breather is nice.  We’re all crossing our fingers for Brandon and wish him a speedy recovery.

The tectonic plates are shifting, hot magma’s poking through the crust.
We’re bringing the heat.
Please dress accordingly.

Sprinkles

July 25th, 2010 by Ben

Derek and myself got up at dawn last thursday and got some cool footage for our Western Vulture video.  It involves bikes, cigarettes and denim.  This one’s being filmed with Derek’s high def SLR cam-cam, so it’ll be a nice change of pace from our laptop-quality-helmed visual aid series. Still self-produced, though.  Still no budget.  Chock full of creativicles.

The EP should be done pressing any day now.  Went in a couple weeks ago, usually takes around 15 business days.  The Western Vulture EP has been a long process, painstakingly at times.  We’ve cycled through 4 studios over the past couple years, sneaking in sessions whenever the big wigs skipped town.  It’s truly refreshing to see some form of a finish line.  Our release date is projected to be sometime in late August.

Speaking of August, we’re booking a few shows throughout the month, so if you miss out on Thursday w/ Pigeon Park, we’ll keep you posted on those dates.

Till then,

Visual Aids

July 11th, 2010 by Ben

Check out FCC-TV.  Better organized with some new additions to our “Visual Aid” Series.

Our “Visual Aid” series came about when we were posting songs on youtube.  Instead of throwing up a bunch of lame still-pictures for the video, we thought “Wait, why don’t we just throw some creative footage together for each song? Sure, we don’t have any money, but that doesn’t mean we can’t film interesting visuals on our laptops and/or cameras!”

And there you have it.  Our “Visual Aid” series is an outlet that exists beyond the confines of budget and form.

Of course, we love to collaberate with other filmakers.  Send us an email if you’ve got a visual experiment you’d like to put to some music.  freecitycollective@gmail.com

Having said that, our OFFICIAL music video for “Indian Arm” is being shot and chopped as we speak by our good friends at The Futurists.  We’re hoping to get it done in time for the EP release.

We’ll be back at Nimbus Studios to finish off some more demos at the end of the month.  Much thanks to Adam Riddle and Co. for making it sound so damn good.

Time for some world cup.
